UD#112 Hark! The Herald Ukulele Duet
from Ukulele in the Dark with Guido Heistek

Last year we did a duet arrangement of “Coventry Carol”, which, from all reports, people really enjoyed. I was hoping to do something similar this year!

One of my online groups requested that we do a version of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” So, I found a traditional arrangement and transcribed the soprano and alto parts for two ukuleles: high G and low G. I also added a third uke strumming chords. Have a listen!

I know some of you are enthusiastic about learning by ear. So am I! For those who are interested let’s give that a try. The sheet music is below is you want to jump straight there.

This song is in the key of G. Here are the the notes in the main melody:

The song starts on the D note on the second fret of the C string. Here I am playing it fairly slowly. Feel free to stop the recording frequently. See if you can learn it by ear a little bit at a time. The sheet music is below.

NOTES!

-Uke 1 can be played on a high or low G instrument.

-Uke 2 is best played on a low G uke

-The chords are meant to be strummed once per “letter.”  For example, in bar 1 you strum a G chord on beats 1 and 3. In bar 2, you strum a G chord on beat 1 and a D chord on beat 3.

I made some versions of the arrangement with parts muted, so you can play along and join the ensemble! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

NO UKE 1: Play uke 1 along with this one.

NO UKE 2: Play uke 1 along with this one.

NO CHORDS: Play chords along with this one.

All for now!

Guido
